Roquebrune-sur-Argens, France

Next stop was Roquebrune-sur-Argens, France. We had intended to visit a site at Port Grimoud which has a ferry to St Tropez but unfortunately all the coastal sites were packed full. Sue found a campsite with good facilities a few miles inland at Roquebrune-sur-Argens where we spent a couple of days swimming in the excellent pool and relaxing in the sun.

San Remo - Italian Riviera

Following the downpours in Tenero we had no choice but to head south for the sun. All forecasts were saying that the coast was the only guarantee of good summer weather. Therefore we made the long drive from Locarno on Maggiore to San Remo on the Italian Riviera. We had located the site in our "101 Best Seaside Campsites" by Alan Rogers. With the sat nav set we approached San Remo on the coatal motorway set high up in the mountains, while driving I asked Sue to call the campsite to say we were nearly there and were told they we suddenly fully booked! Not sure what to do we missed the turn and carried on towards Monaco, I asked the Sat Nav to find nearest campsite and we followed the route off the motorway and onto a TINY winding hairpin ally leading from the Motorway to the coast! Our 8m Van only just inched around the tight brick wall enclosed hairpins and then near the bottom we became lodged against a hedge with about 6 cars unable to pass coming up the hill!!!!  Sue got out and suggested they fold their mirrors and with a lout of Italian shouting and swearing they managed to pass and we found our way to the suggested campsite..... the same bloody one that was full....   Anyway the was a handy Aire next door so we parked overnight and got onto a fabulous pitch next to the sea the following morning. Great location loads of sun and fantastic bike trails all along the coast. Highly recommended.

Campo Felice - Tenero CH

With the weather still resisting full sun we decided to move on to Campo Felice in Tenero near Locarno in Switzerland for the Switzerland Day festivities on August 1st. This is one of our favourite campsites located on the shores of Lake Maggiore and within cycling distance (or ferry) of the beautiful lakeside town of Locarno. This area is normally guaranteed hot sunshine albeit with the occasional heavy thunderstorm. Unfortunately we got it the other way around and so where again moving on earlier than expected!

Fugen - Zillertal Valley

Following Lofer we headed for the Zillertal Valley famous for the Mayrhofen Ski Resort. On a previous trip I had found an excellent campsite ironically called "Camping Hell" with large pitches and fab facilities. Our main reson for the quick visit was the amazing swimming complex the "Erlebnistherme Zillertal" in Fügen. The boys loved the complex with its huge slides that you can ride down on a small dingy!

Lofer in Salzburgland

Following our stay near Fussen in Germany we moved to Camping Grubhof in Lofer a small ski resort near Zell am See. As usual we made full use of village facilities including the excellent outdoor swimming complex and the always outstanding Cafe' Dankl home of the best Apple Strudel in the world. This years we discovered a fantastic bike path from Lofer to Unken where there is another fabulous Indoor/Outdoor swimming complex with wonderful mountain views. The bike path follows the picturesque course of the river Saalach which is bright blue/green and fast flowing. The weather was not the best we have had in Lofer but we did have some sun mixed with occasional showers and a thunderstorm or two...

Neuschwanstein Castle and Alpsee

Today Sue and George joined our group of friends on a 50k cycle ride into Austria. Bit far for James so I stayed back and we went on a ride to Schwangau to see Neuschwanstein Castle, Hohenschwangau Castle and the crystal clear Trout filled Alpsee. Later James and I cycled into Fussen and had a splendid lunch before visiting tchibo and buying a keep warm caffetiere. 6k later we are back at Camping Brunnen for last night.

2014 Germany-Austria-Switzerland

We have arrived in Bavaria Germany at a great site near Fussen called camping Brunnen. Its directly on lake Forgensee and our pitch has a view up the lake and across to the mountains. Already been on bike ride to the nearest cable car and took it to the top before a two hour walk down broken by several beers and lunch at a panoramic cafe. Sue and boys have been swimming and boating in lake and we have a huge choice of cycle trails. Nice weather so far so fingers crossed!
