Ehrwald - Mountain Walk & Bibierwier Tobogann

Today we took the Ehrwald Almbahn lift up the valley between Ehrwald and Bibierwier to the main ski area on the Zugspitz Mountain. Its modern Gondala that swiftly takes you up to 1500 feet where you can hit a trail that leads further up the montain towards the Seebersee that is 1.5 hours walk away. We made it about a third of the way but James got tired so we headed back but walked the whole way back down the mountain to the base station at Ehrwald. The sun as shining all day long. We then took the bus back to Bibierwier for more Toboganning fun!

Biberwier Mountain Walk

Yesterday we spent the day at Biberwier where we rode the mile long Tobogann and then went back to the very top of the Mountain Ski Lift and then walked the Mountain trail all the way back down stopping t a mountain Hut for Bratwurst and Chips with a Lemon Beer. We have a special card that allows us to use the excellent bus service between the towns and ski stations so getting about is a breeze.

Later we went on to Lermoos and went up the cable car just for the trip.

Later last evening....

We had dinner at the Resort restaurant which we new to be excellent from our previous visit in May. We were not disappointed and enjoyed one of the tastiest meals we have had for ages.

The asscent of the Zugspitz

Yesterday we took the 100 man Cable Car to the peak of the Zugspitz which was frozen and snow covered and reminded me of the film "Ice Station Zebra"  It is a super fast service that climbs from 1200m to 3100m in just ten minutes and uses only three pylons in the three mile journey!

Zugspitz Sunset

End of our first full day at Ehrwald at the base of the Zugspitz Mountain at 3000m the highest in Germany. For some reason the rock reflects the sun creating a deep orange glow most evenings. We saw this a couple of summers go but even though the weather is not great it is still glowing this week!

The resort has a fab indoor/outdoor spa pool at about 35 degrees as well as a sauna complex, out door play area, go kart track and many mountain bike trails. The restaurant is excellent and the beer tastes quite good too!

Tiroler Zugspitz

Arrived at the excellent Tiroler Zugspitz Family Resort at the base of the highest Mountain in Germany the Zugspitz. The village is Ehrwald and is actually in Austria near Lermoos.

We made the trip in two days with a stop over in Aachen near the borders of Germany and Belgium, looks like a nice town. More later....

2011 Summer Tour

We are now getting prepared for our 2011 Summer Tour in the Frankia. We are heading for Austria on Saturday after staying one night on an Island in River Mosel near Koblenz in Germany.

We are staying the first week at the fantastic Tiroler Zugspitz Active and Family Resort http://www.zugspitz-resort.at/ which has spectacular camping pitches attached.

Weather looks changeable but then it always is in the high Tyrol Mountains. Further update when we arrive at the Zugspitz the highest Mountain in Germany on the Austrian Border.
